Swirling with deep red, orange and even cream hues, the carnelian is a stone that is connected to the sacral chakra, motivation, energy, analytic ability and stability. Perhaps in reference to its colours, the name of this stone is derived from the Latin word ‘carnis’ meaning ‘flesh’.
Carnelian was a popular stone of adornment for the Ancient Egyptians who believed it assisted the soul on its journey and carried great protective power in the afterlife. Perhaps this is why it is popularly regarded as a stone that is helpful for accepting the cycle of life and death.
In ancient Egypt it was also worn to calm anger, jealousy and envy. These days it is said that carnelian may help overcome negative conditioning, promote self trust, tune ‘day-dreamers’ back into everyday life or help remove extraneous thoughts while meditating.
Judy Hall, author of The Crystal Bible’ says, ‘Carnelian anchors into the present reality and is excellent for restoring vitality.’ Known as a stone of abundance, carnelian is also thought to help motivate for success in business.
Carnelian is said to be helpful in cleansing other crystals.
